Second Life Story-Telling and Sex Work

I was a Second Life escort for a little less than a year. I knew why I was doing it. But sometimes I wondered what was in it for the people who paid us. Obviously they got what they paid for. That’s simple enough. But why would anyone pay for sex in Second Life? I think it comes down to role play.

Quid Pro Quo

In the real world, broadly speaking, people hire sex workers for one of two reasons. Some people can’t get the sex they want for free. Maybe they can’t attract the right person. Or maybe they can’t get enough. Some are incels. Some have unusual kinks. I’m generalizing obviously.

The second broad category to my mind is people who want casual sex. Maybe they are married or in a committed relationship. Or they just want to avoid marriage and commitments. This type of sex work is very transactional. Once services are rendered, both parties go their own way and that’s the point.

I don’t want to go too far down this rabbit hole. I’m not trying to get into a debate about trafficking. Or legalization. Those are all important real world issues. But Second Life is a fantasy. Those real world issues don’t apply. Which for me, was a big part of the appeal of sex work in Second Life. I could role play something dangerous without facing any real world consequences.

There must be an element of that for the people who hired me. It’s not like it’s hard to get laid in Second Life. Although some people really do manage to fumble in epic fashion. If your “game” is to wear someone down over time, you’re doing it wrong. I think a lot of people hire escorts in Second Life because it feels like a transgression.

It’s naughty. You wouldn’t do it in real life. But in the virtual world? There’s no actual danger. No STD’s. No victims. It’s just two consensual adults play acting. The transfer of funds makes the dirty fantasy feel more real.

It’s Not (Entirely) About the Money

The first time I ever performed sex work, it was an accident. I did what was asked of me with no expectation of pay. The John gave me some Lindens after and told me to get out. I imagine it made him feel powerful to do so. It made me feel like a cheap slut – but not in a bad way. Years later, I still find it arousing. I’m still chasing that high.

I don’t remember how much I was paid, but it wasn’t much. I think I bought a cheap pair of shoes. If I hadn’t been paid at all, I wouldn’t have felt like a whore. So the money made a difference. The fact that the amount was nominal contributed to the story that I was a dumb bimbo hooker. It made it feel dirty.

Working as an escort was different. The prices were posted on the wall behind the bar. If I under-charged for any reason, I would get in trouble. The story we were telling was different. We were elite escorts. Our customers were high rollers. If your Second Life story is that you’re a playboy, you can throw some money around and feel like a big deal.

I saw a lot of girls come into the bar because they wanted to make a little extra spending money. That’s definitely an advantage of any Second Life job. But realistically, you can make more money more easily doing just about anything in the real world. If you’re not having fun, being a sex worker in Second Life won’t be worth your time.

Once I had a tidy little nest egg saved up, I started paying my own tips. If someone came to visit me and they were in danger of being labeled a “time waster” (a non-tipper basically) I would give them some Lindens and have them tip me. Before Darden and I were official, I would sometimes supplement her budget so she didn’t go broke!

Of course now she gets all this for free. Note to future employers: some income is better than none. But that’s a different topic.

Your Story

A lot of people play Second Life for the role play elements. There are entire sims dedicated to this sort of thing. I’ve never been able to immerse myself in them. Probably has something to do with my busy schedule.

Even if you’re not actively engaged in an organized role play, you’re probably acting out some kind of narrative. Mine is that I am a sexy bimbo living out a luxurious life. All my needs, wants and desires funded by the men and women who lust after me. That’s not my entire story, but it’s the one I’m telling here.

People reach out to me because my story appeals to them. They want a sexy bimbo as part of their narrative. Maybe they want a collection of them. Or maybe they want a dedicated trophy wife. Some just want to say they fucked Lacey Luxe. And some say they want to get to know me… although really? They probably want to fuck Lacey Luxe.

Your Second Life story, whatever it is, is your own. My theory is that you will find Second Life more fulfilling if you know your own story. What are you trying to get out of it? Look for people whose stories and goals overlap with your own. The more you understand your own personal narrative, the better you’ll be at telling it.
